STUDENT HELPER
AR
Throughout the school year, students will participate in a reading program called Accelerated Reader or AR as we call it. Students will be assigned colors of books that fit their reading ability. Students will read the books and take tests that check their comprehension of the text. Students will earn points that will be redeemed for prizes as for every 5 points earned.

SPELLING
Students will be given weekly Spelling words to study. The Spelling words follow a phonic rule. Pre-tests will be held every Monday and post-tests on Fridays.

We all know kids love to play on the computer or iPad, so why not encourage them to play educational games. Here is a list of teacher and student approved fun educational games.
VOCABULARY
Students are given vocabulary/sight words biweekly. Students are expected to be able to read these words without sounding them out and be able to apply them in their daily work. Students will be tested over reading the words and applying them. For a complete list of the First Grade words, click the title "Vocabulary."
